Creating cultural alignment post M&A for employees from varied work cultures in the banking industry
Client Challenge
A rural legacy private bank and the largest modern bank in India were merged during the early 2000s. The result being that young dynamic MBA grads of the parent entity and experienced banking professionals from the legacy brand were rubbing shoulders and competing with each other. The former was highly competitive and believed in cut throat competition and were very passionate while the latter belonged to a very relaxed and laid back work culture. The challenged was to merge these two entities culturally in order to have a more productive organization. Given the fact that the merger would make the new entity one of the banks with the largest market shares, their synergy was an area that the merged entity wanted to focus on.
Gemba’s Solution
Gemba worked with the merged entity on implementing a customised learning & development solution provided by teleometrics. The assignment was a long duration one in nature and involved Gemba in working on the cultural differences post the acquisition to create a single culture of high efficiency. The intervention was a remarkable success and Gemba continued to be its preferred partner for all such future initiatives.
